Why isnt my boyfriend take the initiative and call me first anymore? How can i make him call me?

me and my boyfriend love eachother so much but i am always hurt because he doesnt call me on skype first like he did all the time when we first started dating, i mean twice everday!! i know he hasnt lost interest in me and he really loves me because he constantly says it and people say that to me that im lucky to have a guy that loves me so much. but the thing is now he always waits for me to call him on skype first. my friends says that this always works: to stop calling him for a few days which makes him wonder why i havent called so he will call......is he not calling me anymore because he knows that i will? if so, how can i change that so he will call??
